Sambadrome Carnival in Brazil

Extravagant colors, incredible music, and rich culture is how I would describe traveling in South America during Carnival in February. Carnival is a huge part of South American culture and is celebrated across nearly all South American countries. I was lucky enough to experience Carnival in Brazil and Peru. One of the most known Carnival's around the world is the "Sambadrome" located in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. I got to experience the Sambadrome first hand spending 6 hours of the night dancing and learning about Samba and getting the full experience. Carnival in Rio is one of the most unique experiences I have ever done.

The next Carnival we happened upon was in Machu Picchu village, Peru. We did not intentionally find this experience, I love to say "sometimes you don't find the experience, the experience finds you," and that is exactly what happened in Peru. We came off the mountain to find the locals dancing around the city playing local music on instruments, dumping buckets of water on each other, and spraying each other with foam. While most of the tourists were just watching, trying to stay clear of the water and foam, that is not my style. So of course, I joined in. At the end of walking around the city with the locals twice, I was completely drenched, covered in foam, and left with my new favorite story. I recommend, if you are ever thinking "should I" just remember the famous Nike quote, "just do it," you won't regret it I promise!

My experiences in South America with Carnival were all incredible, these are just two of the main parades I experienced. Communities all across the continent are celebrating in their own ways on all different days in February every year. If you want to experience something unique, beautiful and super immersive, I am always free to help with your next "crazy" adventure. (No adventure is crazy, you can dream it, I can send you there!).
