Japan is a country I was never quite sure I would make it to but I am so happy I did! I had an amazing opportunity to travel throughout Japan with G Adventures. What I loved about travelling with G was that the group was small (only 12 people!) so we were able to travel to each city by local transportation. That means we were on bullet trains, local trains, subways, buses, ferries, & even cable cars. As hectic and confusing as it sounds I absolutely loved it. It's a great way to be around the locals and see how they live on a daily basis. One aspect of G Adventures travel style that they pride themselves on is cultural immersion and giving back to the community. I truly believe that is what I experienced on this trip with G. I do have to say one of the best parts about my experience was our guide. Him being a local made it easy for us to navigate all of the local transportation, communicate with locals, and he always had great optional excursions or advice in general on where to go and what to do.

My week in Japan started in Osaka and went to Koyasan, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Hakone, and Tokyo. Our accommodations included hotels, a night on Mt. Koya in a Buddhist monastery, and a night in a traditional Japanese Ryokan which included onsen's or "hot springs" to relax & bathe in. I have ever experienced anything like it! We visited many temples and shrines learning about Japan's history and culture and ate at lovely traditional Japanese restaurants. The hardest part about going to Japan was saying goodbye when it was time to head home.
